Paul Basile
Photography

I see images through contemporary eyes, both abstract and realistic, and try to convey the lure of the simplicity, elegance, grace, and power of my subjects by means of evocative composition and use of light and shade, color and texture all working together.

My primary subjects are the magnificent landscapes of the southwest United States. Thus far, this includes White Sands National Monument in southern New Mexico and Chaco Canyon in northern New Mexico; Canyon de Chelly in Navajoland; Antelope Canyon in Page, Arizona; Sedona, Arizona; Death Valley and Joshua Tree, California; Zion National Park, "The Wave", Monument Valley, and Arches National Park, all in Utah.

My venture into photographic imaging began as a mild interest but has grown to be a mild obsession.Ever evolving, I'm guided by a desire to depict the mystery and majesty of my chosen subjects, often times as a metaphor for human perception with its inherent juxtaposition of simplicity and complexity. My primary focus (pun intended) is on landscape photography because of the challenge of capturing the interplay of light, shadow, and the natural elements present in the current, fleeting moment... here now, then gone. I find that I also attempt to extend my personal way of being through my personal style of imaging - be it called minimalistic, simplistic, modernist, sensual, unassuming, evocative. I'm not always successful in this endeavor (hence some "postcard" images), but it is a driving force.

As a member of the Santa Fe Society of Artists, I exhibit my work here in Santa Fe at our fine art shows. In 2010, I received "Honorable Mention" in New Mexico Magazine's 9th Annual Photo Contest for my image, "Picnic Reflections #1", and exhibited at the 1st Annual New Mexico Photographic Arts Show. I am also a member of Photo Laureates, the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, the Northern New Mexico Fine Arts and Crafts Guild, and the Santa Fe Artists Market.
