Light has color and movement, and these are the qualities
I want to convey when I paint. My subject matter varies, but I like
the sense of place that landscapes offer – a space of light and
shadow that you can “walk
into,” and I like the gestures inherent in figural paintings. I want
the gestures of figures to denote mood, as well
as movement and rhythm.
Most of my art education was in Denver, Colorado. Although I grew up in Texas,
my family and I moved to Santa Fe in 1972, and we have lived either here or
near Denver since then.
While working in Denver, I obtained a bachelor of
fine arts from the University of Colorado at Denver (UCD) in 1992.
After that, I studied with several area artists and belonged to two
large art groups – the Colorado Artists Guild
(CAG) and the Denver Allied Artists Guild (DAAG) winning a number of awards
including some Best of Shows with DAAG. I also twice won awards in “Gateway to the Rockies,” a
regional art show held in Aurora, Colorado.
We moved back to Santa Fe (for the 3rd time) in 2000.
New Mexico is our permanent home now, and Santa Fe is a continuing
source of color and artistic inspiration. I'm delighted to be painting
full-time here now.
