Dovey The intention of my paintings of trees in the landscape is to pause and wonder at the beauty of a quiet place. A familiar landscape created from the heart, painted from my memory of places I have visited or imagined in my mind. I try to create a sense of serenity, tranquility and peace in the world, not specific to region, so that people everywhere can share and enjoy my view. I prefer to work in the studio where I can tune out the stress and insanity of the world, turn on some music, and get to work. I have everything I need handy and there are no “weather delays”. I work on several paintings at a time because of the drying time involved in the process. Also, if I am having trouble with one painting, I can switch to another and the problems usually work themselves out. I am drawn to landscapes, especially with trees. They represent to me a simpler time and a harmony with nature. I use oils to paint with because I love how they look and their permanence. What I really try to convey is a place of rest, solitude and beauty. I find that with each painting I do, I learn a greater awareness of texture, color and composition. It has taken me a long time to feel confident enough in my painting to pursue it full time, and I thank you for your interest. I love the journey I’m on and I can’t wait to get back to work.
