Ruth Flaherty studied the local arts
and crafts of various regions of the United States during the past twenty
years. Her formal training in the fine arts began in 1965 in West Germany.
For the next three years she studied at the
Wiesbaden Kuntschule. Her basic techniques in palette knife oils can be credited
to the disciplined instruction of Kuntsneister Herr Herzfeld. In 1968 she graduated
with distinction. The last several years she has exclusively painted in water
media.
Mrs. Flaherty has received recognition in
juried shows in Oklahoma City, San Antonio and Tucson. She is an active member
of numerous art groups including the Sante Fe Society of Artists and the Independent
Artists Gallery Co-op.
While her paintings have a definite Southwestern
flavor, there is always a touch of the old masters style which viewers find
pleasing.
