“I have moved from painting the ”object” with
brushes to painting the ”non-object” without brushes.
The painting surface pushes the potential of acrylics. Content
arises out of my understanding of Eastern disciplines and aesthetics,
and attempts to express related abstract concepts visually. Though
Western in color use, a spare Eastern aesthetic prevails.
I have taken the expression of my abstract monotypes
of the past five years into colorful acrylic paintings,
using a similar approach and thought process. In making monotypes,
I use multiple drops and limited colors, layering etching ink mixtures
on the paper with successive plates. In painting, I apply
acrylic color in many transparent layers with underlying colors variously
obscured and revealed.”
