K. LaTourrette has been a resident of Santa Fe, NM since 1991. She grew up in Albuquerque and has lived in the Southwest most of her life. K graduated from New Mexico State University and earned a masters degree in counseling from Troy State University. Her biography appears in ‘Who’s Who of American Women’. She is a member of the Santa Fe Society of Artists, the NM Watercolor Society and the Northern NM Fine Arts & Crafts Guild.K also lived in Europe and Japan with her husband and three sons. During her travels there, she painted the German wine country, rubbed brasses in the old churches of England and painted the quaint villages of Okinawa. K has shown her art in galleries in California, northern Virginia and New Mexico. Her art can be found in numerous private collections. Her talents span a broad spectrum of art forms - batik, macramé, brass rubbing, wood carving, pottery, oils and her preferred medium - watercolor. “My love of the Southwest - its folklore, pottery, architecture and tri-cultures - strongly influences my work. The old pueblos, adobe homes, cottonwood trees and people - this is uniqueness of the Southwest I want to capture in watercolor”. “Beauty can take many forms - an old piece of wood, the shadows beneath a sagebrush, the lines of a cheekbone or the diverse colors of adobe after a rain. I strive for an emotion through design and color. I believe a painting should have a spark that communicates with the viewer - an idea - a feeling - a glimpse of the past - or even déjà vu”. |
