Much of my work is simply an extension of childhood memories and current surroundings. I am an abstract landscape painter with an emphasis on abstract. In my paintings, I’m trying to paint my mood and feelings rather than the details of the land. Thus moving into the abstract and away from the real gives me the freedom of expression I seek as an artist.
I was born and raised in east Texas where my interest in art began at an early age. At the age of seven, my mother, an artist, began teaching me the basic fundamentals in drawing and painting. By the age of 10, I had already completed my first formal lesson in still-life oil painting.
Idolizing the likes of Rembrandt, Turner, Inness and Corot, my work follows a somewhat chiaroscuro path allowing the lights and darks to create the moods. With the use of a 17th century palette, I am able to accomplish this Old Masters feeling in my paintings. With my interest in evoking an emotion through color and tone, oil pastels offer endless opportunities. Working with still-life and landscapes, I am able to create these tones by an overlapping and blending of a multitude of colors to create a rich surface and a somber mood. As with many artists, my art is constantly evolving.
So what began for me many years ago as a childhood hobby has truly grown into a lifelong passion. And I hope to share this passion with all my collectors.
