Rosilee Winn may be categorized as an impressionist/modernist
artist. She uses oil paints, watercolors, and the print mediums to create vibrant
and whimsical images. Her art can be seen at her studio and at various art
events in Santa Fe and around the Southwest.
I find that the energy, intensity, and rhythm in a piece of
art is what moves me. There is a certain otherness which connects one with
a greater sense of beauty and joy that I attempt to succeed in achieving. It
is not about a single aspect of art but the dance of color and composition
that magnifies the real world to show something of the spiritual beauty of
creation.
I have always been moved by the Impressionists and Post Impressionists.
The European artists that have influenced me the most are Degas, Cezanne, Bonard,
Gauguin, and Van Gogh. I am also influenced by the Blue Rider Movement of Germany
especially Marc and Kandinsky. The regional artists of the Taos and Santa Fe
art colonies that have moved me are Victor Higgens, Andrew Dasburg, Jospeh
Bakos and of course Georgia O'Keeffe.
Though a scientist by profession, I also experience a strong
spiritual connection to life. The combination of these two worlds have given
me a reverence for the incredible beauty that is. My goal in creating art is
to find that energy underneath the place, person or thing which is its essence.
I spend time sketching and even making miniature paintings to get the composition
and color the way I want it before beginning a larger scale work.
