Bio: Pam “PJ” West Short Bio
This year, 2026, is my first year as a full-time artist. I've been wanting to apply for membership in The Santa Fe Society of Artists for a while and wanted to ensure I have the time to dedicate before applying. Realizing a sense of community with professional artists is my goal and I believe this is the group for me. Hopefully, my focus on western, equine art can fill a complementary niche within the group.
My art degree is a BA in Studio Art from the University of Virginia, 1992, where I focused on metal sculpture including bronze casting and also printmaking. My Masters is in Educational Psychology, which I used in my career as an educator until now. As a painter, I've studied paintings in museums all my life and I've taken workshops at Studio Incamminati, the Scottsdale Artists School, and the Virginia Beach Modern Art Museum with artists I admire, otherwise I am self taught and working on my 10,000 hours.
Before this year, I painted part time for the last dozen years and have shown in nine juried exhibitions with some awards and honorable mentions.
My style involves a saturated palette, colorful skies, and a push and pull with detail or painterly elements in representational work. Portraits and commissions tend to have more detail, while other paintings are more expressive. Subjects are focused on the American West, particularly horses and working ranch settings. I prefer working in large format, however, I've diversified into smaller works for entry-level collectors.
At this point, my art fair experience is in the planning stage for purchasing Pro Panels and a 10x10 tent. I did some indoor events last year with a table and easels. As part of that experience, I have a business LLC, insurance, purchasing mechanisms, and have set up my own giclee printing as a lower-cost option to paintings. I really enjoy meeting people talking about art and look forward to being more involved in outdoor art shows.

Skills and Experience: I have website experience and am currently in the process of moving my website from FASO to SquareSpace. My social media experience is limited to occasional posting on Instagram. I would be happy to offer any skills that might be useful to the group.
